Atomic Bomb
This is the atomic bomb that was dropped in Hiroshima. The United States used this nuclear weapon on Japan. They thought that this weapon would make Japan surrender and have them win the war. However, after the bombing of Hiroshima, Japan did not surrender yet. So the United States dropped another atomic bomb in Nagasaki which made Japan surrender.
Arisaka Type 99 Rifle
In 1932, the Japanese developed the Arisaka Type 99 Rifle in the Tokyo and Nagoya Arsenals, Japan. It was the primary rifle used for Japanese battle and replaced the 38th year rifle. It weighed 9 pounds and holds 5 rounds. The purpose of the gun was so a soldier can sight an incoming plane and shoot it.
Nambu Pistol
In 1925, the Nambu pistol was invented. The purpose of the gun was so that Japanese had an easy and cheap pistol. It weighed 2 pounds unloaded and carried eight 8 X 21mm Nambu rounds. Later on in 1939, the handle trigger was enlarged so it could be able to use by the Japanese soldier while wearing gloves. Many Japanese soldiers died because the pistol had a problem, in able for the magazine to be successfully removed are the person using had to have dried hands and have good maintenance.
Type 97 Rifle
This gun is the Type 97 rifle. When they needed to take down larger targets, such as fully armored tanks, they would use this gun to take it down. This is an automatic weapon that weighed over 150 pounds and was Japan’s heaviest anti-tank rifle. From this size, it would take four Japanese soldiers to manage the gun. Though soldiers did not hold the gun while firing, they propped up the front end using the bi-pod built into the front of the gun.
30th Year Rifle
Arisaka was the standard issue rifle for a while for the Japanese infantryman. It could hold five 6.5 X rounds. This was commonly known as the ‘30th Year Rifle’. Empty, it weighs 9.5 pounds. This gun’s height was taller than the average Japanese soldier, it was 50.25 inches tall. The rifle had an odd safety switch, on the back of its bolt, it contains a knob that pushes and turned. From this knob, it would activate the safety mechanism. The gun received its name by its inventor Colonel Arisaka; this was designed during the 30th year of the Meiji Restoration, which means the gun was designed in 1897.
Type 97 Gun
Type 97 gun - This is a fully automatic anti - tank rifle. It could hold 20 by 124 mm rounds. Weighing 152 pounds unloaded, this is also one of the heaviest guns used during the war. To help support the gun’s weight, the gun had a bipod in the front and a monopod at its rear. They needed to dig rearwards into the ground so the gun could obtain some of the recoil for the gun. This type of gun also needs at least four soldiers to carry this type of gun. With this gun, solid armor was pierced through each shot and highly explosive rounds.
Type 99 Rifle
The first model of this rifle was invented in 1897.
Arisaka 44
This gun was the same as the 38th year rifle, except shorter so soldiers could hold it more easily.
Sub-machine Gun Type 100
In 1944, the Japanese simplified the gun and came up with the type 100/44. This was change because it was easier to produce.
Type 99 Machine Gun
Then in 1944, the improved model was made. The T-99 Machine gun was invented in 1939; it was designed to fit the 7.7m rimless cartridge. It weighed about 23 pounds empty and could contain thirty rounds of detachable magazine on the top of the weapon. T-99 was based off the earlier T-96, it was new during the time, which was a great improvement during that time This was a better weapon to use during those times because it didn’t need to be oiled, and didn’t have a few problems other weapons had.
Type 89 Yi-Go Medium Tank
This is the Type 89 Yi-Go (Chi-Ro) Medium Tank. It weighed 12.7 tons and had the armor of 10 to 17mm. It contained 100 rounds of 47mm and 2745 7.7mm. The fastest it could go was 24.75mp and the range it could travel was 99 miles.
Light Machine Gun Type 11
The T-11 (Taisho 11th year) was the very first light machine gun the Japanese had invented themselves. It was very unusual and had a few problems also. It was different than other machine guns, it use normal 6.5 mm cartridge, and weighed about 22.5 pounds empty. The way soldiers put bullets inside the gun was very unusual. There was a hopper on the left side of the weapon, which held five normal Japanese stripper clips of five rounds each. This was in total hold all thirty rounds together.
Type 89 (I-Go) Tank
Type 89 (I-Go) Tank - The code name of the type 89 was (I-Go). I-Go’s design referred to the Vickers Medium C. It weighs 13 tons for the model A, while the model B weighed 15 tons. Both the model Armor was 6 to 17mm. Model A speed was 15mph and Model B speed was 20mph.
Rikugun
Rikugun –During the Pacific War, Sen was just as the Japanese wanted and operated some Japan’s merchant fleet’s former cargo, passenger-cargo, liners, and tankers prior to. This ship fitted the need of transportation, tankers, and ships.
Type 5 Chi-Re Medium Tank
The Type Five Chi-Re Medium Tank never went beyond the prototype till the war ended. It weighed thirty-seven tons. The armor was 75 - 35mm and the max speed was 45mph.
Sensuikan
Sensuikan was Japan’s largest class “A” Submarines - the so called I-Boats and the medium class “B” was called RO-Boats.
Navy Type 99 Carrier Bomber
This is the Japanese Navy Type 99 Carrier Bomber (“Val”) in action during the attack of Pearl Harbor.
